Here in New England, summer is precious. With fairly long, and often very cold winters, the outdoor painting season is relatively short. So "make hay while the sun shines" becomes "paint plein air paintings while the temperatures are warm and the sun is out."

It's been several weeks since I was able to sit and write to you about the adventures of an artist. Since my last note, Aimee and I traveled to New York City to see the blockbuster John Singer Sargent show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to tour the Frick Collection, and returned home to host our Well Fed Artists Retreat. I'm here to report that all of these adventures were a smashing success!!

This week finds me musing about collectors, collecting, and the true appreciation of those who choose to support artists through the purchase of one or more paintings. Speaking from first hand, personal experience, there is little that happens in the life of an artist more gratifying than the sale of a painting, unless it is the successful accomplishment of a challenging painting.
