The online gallery for Dennis Perrin Fine Art. Dennis Perrin can best be described as a painter of light as it illuminates and describes the subject. Mr. Perrin always chooses to paint in front of the subject, not content to settle for photography or video as painting material. Dennis has been called an American Impressionist Painter in the Boston School tradition, and that is not surprising since among his greatest influences are the American Painters John Singer Sargeant, Edmund Tarbell, and Frank Benson, as well as the French painter Henri Fantin-Latour. Other major influences have been Diego Velasquez, Johannes Vermeer,  Thomas Dewing, Maxfield Parrish, Joseph DeCamp, and so many others.

Fall-ing in Love with Painting

Dennis Perrin

I recently had the pleasure and honor of being interviewed by a wonderful, online magazine, The Artist's Road, published monthly by Ann Hulsey Trusty and Don Trusty. They asked some poignant and pointed questions that caused me to reflect on where I've come from, where I am, and where I'm headed as an artist and as a person. I allowed the questions to ferment for a time until the answers came very clear, and I sat down and wrote them out in a single sitting. I'm quite pleased with the article and wanted to pass it along to you in order to give you a deeper insight into the source from where my paintings emerge, as well as the philosophical stance I hold that guides my work and my teaching. Please take the time to read the full interview, which is available free at this link until October 14th. After that, the interview and magazine will only be available by subscription. "A Nod to J.W.A."

"A Nod to J.W.A."

Since Fall has arrived here in Maine, and there is a decided chill in the air, I've decided to re-emerge into the studio where I'll be crafting a steady stream of figurative, floral, and still life work in the coming months. To start us off I chose a sumptuous, billowy setting inspired by a painting we saw during our recent trip to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. The name of this painting suggests the artist, and I'll leave it to you to do the genealogical research to discover the origins. But I had a wonderful time painting this sensuous work, and it was great to be back indoors where things are a bit more predictable. "A Nod to J.W.A." oil on canvas, 18" x 24"
